Viola was living Alexander McDougall and Charlotte Smith in the 1911 census, described as their daughter. (Charlotte would have been in her late 40ies when Viola was born).

She appears for the first time as the step-daughter of Ernest Morrell in the 1921 census.

On her first marriage record, she said her parents were Alexander McDougall and Charlotte Smith, and on her second marriage she said Mary and Ernest.

Children who died before 2016 were Lewis, Roberta, Irene, Gertrude and Harold.

She was Viola Drost in her brother Russell's obit.
