In Massachusetts city directories for 1902 and 1903 he was a blacksmith or horse shoer in Cambridge. Their first daughter was born in Massachusetts, and their second daughter was born in Washington State. In the 1910 US census, Ed and Maude were in Tacoma, where Ed was a blacksmith employed by the railway. Their daughters were Gertrude (6) and Alice V. (3). Ed indicated on his 1930 census form that he was a widower; however, on his naturalization papers dated 1938 his status was divorced.

On his "Old Man Draft Card" Edward Alexander Dyment, born 4 April 1879, gave Mrs. Henry Christianson of Olympia, Washington as his contact. His employer was Thomas Dyment.
