Narrative

Born on April 9 1867 to Cornelius E Macarthur and Elizabeth Dyment, according to his obituary, Alvah may have been the son registered in Cambridge, Massachusetts as Josephus. On the 1900 census form, Alvah gave his year of immigration as 1868 (his brother gave 1870). Alvah was the superintendent of a cemetery.

He married Elizabeth May Ross, daughter of John and Elizabeth Ross, on 23 May 1888 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. At the time of his marriage Alvah gave his occupation as marble cutter. They had six children, 5 girls and one son, who died young.

He died on 2 Jan 1943 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, USA.
