In the 1921 census, James Mann (61) was a farmer, living with his children Ruby (21), Waldon (19), Bessie (16), John (13) and William (11). The youngest were all going to school and Waldon was farming with his father. Elmer had lived with the family of William and Margaret Mann in Indian River from the time he was young.

Of his children, Erskine had a daughter, and John Horace a son. The rest of his children were childless or unmarried.

James' death record gave his parents names as William Mann and "Mary Johnstone"; his son Waldon confusing Janet Johnstone and Mary Fraser.

The passing of an aged and respected citizen has left a shade of sadness over the people of Burlington when it became known that James A. Mann had passed away at his home on Dec 26th 1945 after a short illness at the age of 84 years. He was the third son of the late William Mann and his wife Janet Johnstone. He was the last surviving member of the family, his brothers and sisters having predeceased him. His wife (Janet Mann) predeceased him a number of years ago; also a son (John). As a young man he took up farming on the old homestead and was a successful and progressive farmer, a man of high order of intelligence, esteemed and respected by all who knew him. His services were always aet the command of his friends and neighbours. He lived his religion day by day. To his fellow man he showed it in many ways in kindness and generosity to those in need, and willingness to aid those in time of trouble. There are left to mourn the loss of a loving father four son, Erskin of Toronto, William of Montreal, Elmer , Indian River, Waldon at home; two daughters Bessie, Mrs. James Anderson Montreal; Ruby at home.
