My Family Tree

MARY MACARTHUR, daughter of HUGH MACARTHUR and SUSANNA DYMENT, was born 22 November 1842 in P.E.I., and died 7 March 1929. In 1875, she married SAMUEL CURRIE, a farmer, who was born 19 November 1844 in Campbellton P.E.I., and died 20 December 1920 in Springfield P.E.I.
Samuel was the son of William Currie and Eliza Hutton.

Mary is not in the PEI Baptismal Index and cannot be accounted for in the 1861 census with the household that I believe is Hugh and Susanna's. However, Mary and Samuel Currey were living in Lot 7 in the farm next to Hugh and Susan in the 1881 census, and these were the names of her parents on her death record. The lack of a baptismal record is not surprising, given the state of most Bible Christian church records on the Island.

There were six children for this couple in the PEI Baptismal Index: Elsie May, Irene Florence, William Nelson, Annie Louise, Janet Hope and Josephine. Of these six children, three were born in Springfield. Some of them were baptized in O'Leary.

In the 1881 census, Mary was 36, Samuel 32, Janie (10), Annie (5), Josephine (2) and Elive (3 months). In 1891, Samuel and Mary were living with Anne (15, working as a servant), Josephine (12), Easena (Irena, 10), and Willie (5). Mary said that her father was born on the Island and her mother in England.

In 1901, Samuel and Mary were living in Lot 7 with their children Josephine, Irena F., and Willie N. By 1911, only William was at home.

After Samuel's death, Mary was living in Orange Massachusetts with her daughter Jennie in 1920:

Her death was not recorded in the Massachusetts Death Index, and she was buried on the Island.
