Ellen MacArthur - possibly Ellen Ann - was born in September 1845 in O'Leary, PEI, and died 3 March 1938, age 93, Lower Bedeque, PEI...although her age was given as 94 in 1937. Although she was not in the PEI Baptismal Index and there was no daughter of this age in the household of Hugh and Susan in the 1861 census, the marriage announcement in the newspaper said she was the second daughter of Hugh, and on her death record, her parents were Hugh and Susan (Dyment).

There is a marriage record for James Boulter and Eleanor Marthur on 6 April 1864. Matthias McArthur was a witness. This matches the information on their marriage bond:

There were five children in the PEI Baptismal Index for this couple: Albert Watson, Amos, Annie Josephine, Curtis and Edmund, all born in Pierre Jacques. James Bertram is also there, born 1867, but no place of birth listed. In 1881, James Boulter and Ann were living in Lot 8 with 8 children: Henry (1866), James (1868), Albert (1870), Amos (1872), Hugh (1874), Edward (1876), Curtis (1878), and Josephine (1880). In the 1891 census, the children listed were: James Bertram (1868), Albert Watson (1870), Amos (1872), Hugh Nelson (1874), Eddie (1876), Curtis (1878), Josie (1880), and Artemas (1883).

In 1891, they were living in a 1 1/2 story house with 2 rooms. Ellen said that both of her parents were born on the Island.

James and Ellen were living in Walpole, Massachusetts in 1900 with their children Nelson, Edward, Curtis L, Annie J and Artimus B. In this census, Ellen said she had had 11 children, 7 living; I have only identified 9 of her children. Albert Watson had died in 1891, which means that Henry might be the other child who died before 1900.

Ellen (65) and James (75) returned to the Island and were living with their son James Bertram in 1911 in Lot 8. Edward and his wife were living in the next farm. Son James was single. Also in the household was James Bertram's niece Marion, born 1907.

Ellen was living with her son Ed and his wife Rubina in 1930 in Walpole, Massachusetts. She was 85. She returned to the Island, where she celebrated her 93rd birthday in January 1937. She died in 1938.
